Uncertainty Looms Over Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc’s USGP Results

The European News Global

Lewis Hamilton’s second-place finish and Charles Leclerc’s impressive sixth-place finish at the United States Grand Prix could potentially be called into question following post-race inspections. A technical discrepancy relating to the planks on both cars has raised concerns among race stewards, prompting speculation about the validity of the final results.

In a document released by the F1 Technical Delegate following the conclusion of the USGP, it was revealed that the skids on Hamilton and Leclerc’s cars were found to be “not in compliance” with F1’s Technical Regulations. The specific violation was outlined under Article 3.5.9, governing the “Plank Assembly,” with subsection (e) stating:

“The thickness of the plank assembly measured normal to the lower surface must be 10mm ± 0.2mm and must be uniform when new. A minimum thickness of 9mm will be accepted due to wear, and conformity to this provision will be checked at the peripheries of the designated holes.”

Given the penalties for violations of the Technical Regulations, including potential disqualification, the final results of the race could undergo a significant shakeup. The outcome hinges on the decisions made by race stewards upon further investigation and analysis of the situation.

It is customary for all cars to undergo inspections following the conclusion of a grand prix. However, only Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were specifically mentioned by the Technical Delegate. Their respective teammates, George Russell and Carlos Sainz Jr., appear to have escaped scrutiny in this instance.
