European News Global

A helicopter carrying foreign tourists crashed near Mount Everest in Nepal, resulting in the loss of five lives. The ill-fated aircraft was returning to Kathmandu from a sightseeing trip to the iconic peak when the accident occurred. The incident serves as a solemn reminder of the risks inherent in mountainous regions, especially during the unpredictable monsoon season.

The tragedy unfolded in the Lamajura area of Nepal, where the helicopter met with an unfortunate fate. Basanta Bhattarai, the chief government administrator in the area, confirmed that five bodies had been recovered, while one individual remained missing at the time of reporting. The victims were identified as Mexican tourists, with the pilot being a Nepalese national.

Airport official Sagar Kadel highlighted the significant impact of weather conditions on flight operations during the monsoon season. Modifications in the helicopter’s planned flight route were necessitated due to the prevailing weather conditions. Heavy rains and poor visibility are common features during this time of the year, leading to delays and changes to flight routes.

With the arrival of the monsoon season, the bustling tourist and mountaineering season in Nepal typically concludes. This shift is primarily due to the erratic weather patterns, making it untenable for tourists to visit mountainous regions. The reduced visibility and unpredictable weather patterns pose significant risks, compelling the authorities to discourage tourist flights.
